Chen Dapeng: China's garment industry "from big to strong" urgently needs to improve soft power

Chen Dapeng, executive vice president of the China Garment Association, said in Harbin on the 29th that the key to the transformation of China from a big clothing country to a strong clothing nation is to increase the soft power of the apparel industry.

Chen Dapeng said that China has a world-class garment factory, advanced manufacturing and sewing equipment, excellent skilled workers, and can process world-brand products. China's annual clothing production capacity exceeds 50 billion pieces. Last year, garment exports exceeded RMB 120 billion, making it a real clothing giant.

Why the same quality of clothes, due to different brands, the price difference of several times or even dozens of times? Chen Dapeng told reporters that behind different brands carries different cultural connotations. Therefore, the value of clothing is ultimately reflected in the addition of cultural values. To become a strong country in apparel, China must increase its soft power, that is, the cultural creativity in the apparel industry.

Dapeng Chen believes that the garment industry is not only a labor-intensive enterprise, but also a new technology industry, a fashion and cultural industry. Currently, the overall innovation capability of China's garment industry is improving, but the cultural creativity, design, and research and development capabilities still need to continue to be strengthened.
