Hetian jade is mainly distributed in the north slope of the Kunlun Mountains, which stretches for 1500 kilometers in the Tashkurgan, Hetian, and Hemo counties in Xinjiang, because the distribution of primary ore is extremely uneven, and the size and shape of the orebody changes greatly, making geological exploration difficult. Although Xinjiang Hetian jade geological research has achieved breakthrough results in the geological research, but overall, the overall regional resource survey has not yet been fully carried out, the mining area survey, detailed investigation is rare, resource reserves are still unclear.

Industry insiders said that the Hetian jade industry needs a reform to regulate the industry rules from the source in order to ensure the sustainable and healthy development of Hetian jade related industries. The serious waste of Hetianyu resources is the main factor that restricts the development of Hetian jade. The waste of resources occurs in the entire industrial chain from mining to processing and trading.

In the mining of mountain materials, due to the generally small scale of mining enterprises, they are still extensive mining methods. The traditional drilling and blasting methods are used for mining. Jade is broken and only 20% of it can be used for production, causing serious waste of resources. Moreover, in order to maximize profits, mining companies tend to favor white jade mines with higher market prices that appear in the mine veins, and destroy jade mines of other colors more seriously. In order to evade the resource tax, the phenomenon of indiscriminate excavation by mining enterprises is also very common. The actual reported amount of resource exploitation is far from actual. Good jade materials must also be well-carved to become a work of art. The so-called “jade cannot be carved without a tool”. In addition, according to statistics, more than 90% of Hetian jade raw materials produced in Xinjiang were sent to Beijing, Shanghai, and other places for processing. Sixty percent of the sculptured products were shipped back to Xinjiang for sale. Such a processing and sales model undoubtedly increased the finished products of Hetian jade jade carvings. The price is self-evident. This is undoubtedly a waste of resources.
