Underwear maintenance tips

People often say that underwear is like a woman’s second skin, and just like skincare, proper care for undergarments is essential for maintaining their quality and comfort. Recently, I had the chance to speak with Mr. Liang, the manager of Xianyi, France, who specializes in undergarments. He shared some valuable tips on how to properly maintain your underwears. First and foremost, cleaning is crucial. Underwear that isn’t cleaned regularly can become unhygienic and lose its breathability, softness, and elasticity over time. Proper washing helps preserve the fabric's integrity and ensures it continues to provide the support and comfort you need. When wearing your undergarments, be gentle. Even high-end or expensive items may not last as long if not handled with care. The materials used are usually soft and delicate, so avoid pulling or stretching them too much when putting them on or taking them off. Also, be careful not to snag them with your fingernails or jewelry. Proper storage is equally important. It’s best to keep your undergarments separate from regular clothes, ideally in a dedicated drawer or cabinet. Avoid folding them too tightly or storing them in a damp place, as moisture can lead to discoloration, mildew, and thread damage. Don’t store them with hygiene pills or mothballs, as these can weaken the fabric and elastic. When folding, do it neatly to maintain their shape. If you’re storing seasonal undergarments, make sure they’re clean and kept in a well-ventilated area. Try to avoid using sealed plastic bags for long-term storage, as this can trap moisture and cause mold. For silk or wool items, extra care is needed—avoid placing silk near insect repellents and never soak wool in water. As for washing methods, always use a gentle hand wash. Use a mild, neutral detergent specifically designed for undergarments or a general-purpose one that’s pH-balanced. Avoid chlorine bleach, as it can discolor and weaken the fabric. Use just the right amount of detergent—too much can be harsh on the material. Never apply the detergent directly to the fabric; instead, dissolve it in warm water (between 30°C and 40°C) before soaking the garments. This helps prevent color fading and keeps your underwears looking fresh and new for longer. By following these simple yet effective tips, you can extend the life of your undergarments and enjoy maximum comfort every day.
