IWC auctions the only large pilot watch

Sotheby’s is set to host the "Important Watches" auction in Geneva on May 9, 2010, featuring a rare and iconic piece: the "Saint Exupéry" special edition platinum watch. This timepiece is one of the most significant pilot watches ever created, paying tribute to the legendary French aviator and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Known for its striking design and exceptional craftsmanship, this watch stands out with its elegant platinum case, rich brown dial, and intricate engravings depicting Saint-Exupéry as a military pilot. The watch is powered by the prestigious IWC 51111 movement, equipped with an automatic winding system by Biller Dayton, a seven-day power reserve, a power reserve indicator, Breguet-style hands, and a date display. These features not only highlight its technical sophistication but also make it a standout among other timepieces in the same category. Its refined appearance and historical significance are reflected in the high auction reserve price of 50,000 Swiss francs. The auction will take place at the Hotel Beau Rivage in Geneva. Alongside the "Saint Exupéry" platinum watch, the sale will include a special edition of "Saint Exupéry's Biography," signed by Nathalie des Vallières, and a collection of related memorabilia. The event promises to be a unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to own a piece of aviation and literary history. IWC has committed to donating all proceeds from the auction to the "World Organization for Human Rights" (EMDH), an organization dedicated to protecting children’s rights globally. Specifically, IWC supports their initiatives in Madagascar, where they have been working with local partners since 1994 to assist children in need. This auction is not just about selling a luxury watch—it's also a meaningful contribution to a noble cause.
